Individual Obstacles: A Comprehensive Guide
Mastering the GTO Course with Confidence
Introduction
Individual obstacles are a core part of the GTO. You'll have 3 minutes to complete as many of the 10 obstacles as you can. Each obstacle varies in difficulty and awards points upon completion.
General Rules
- If you complete all 10 tasks within the time limit, you can repeat obstacles to get extra points.
- You can't repeat an obstacle until you've completed all of them at least once.
- The GTO will blow a whistle at the 2:30 mark to signal the time is almost up.
- Only 1 to 3 candidates will be on the course at a time.
Important Points & Preparation
Safety First: Never get yourself hurt. If an obstacle seems too tough, it's okay to skip it. Focus on the easier ones or those closer to you.
Attitude is Key: The number of obstacles you complete isn't the only thing that matters. What's crucial is your energy, participation, and a "never give up" attitude. Continue performing until the 3 minutes are over, even if you fail the first time. Candidates who complete just 5-6 obstacles are often recommended, so don't feel discouraged.
Preparation Tip: A good way to prepare is to practice running continuously at full speed for 3-4 minutes. If you can do this, you're likely to perform well.
Obstacle List
Below are the obstacles with descriptions and images.
1. Burma Bridge (Difficulty: HIGH)
A walk between two ropes for 25 ft, 10 ft high. It shakes as you move, so maintaining your body balance is key. This is a time-consuming task.
2. Wall Jump (Difficulty: MID)
This is a wooden wall with a slope. You run up the slope of the inclined plane and climb over an 8 ft wall.
3. Jump Through Tyre (Difficulty: MID)
Jump feet-first through a large tire hung at a height of 5 ft. There's a small loop in the rope you can use to pull yourself up. Note: This is not for army entries.
4. Tarzan Jump (Difficulty: MID)
From a platform 10-12 ft high, you grab a rope, swing like Tarzan, and land after a marked line. Note: This is not for air force entries.
5. Double Ditch (Difficulty: MID)
This obstacle has two ditches (8ft x 3ft and 4ft x 3ft). You cross the first with a rope and jump over the second. Note: Not used in air force entries.
6. Tiger Leap (Difficulty: HIGH)
Climb a 9ft platform and leap 4ft to catch a rope. It's crucial to catch the rope at chest level to avoid getting hurt while sliding down.
7. Double Platform Jump (Difficulty: MID)
You climb a 12 ft platform and make two jumps: the first to a lower 8ft platform, and the second to the ground.
8. Rope Climbing (Difficulty: HIGH)
Climb a vertical rope to touch a post at 4-5 meters and then climb back down. Note: Not used in army entries.
9. Screen Jump (Difficulty: EASY)
The candidate needs to run over a slide and over a screen placed after the slide.
11. Ramp Jump (Difficulty: EASY)
You run up an inclined plane and jump across a line marked about 4ft from the end.
12. Balancing Beams (Difficulty: MID)
It includes walking over a zig-zag balance and completing the walk and landing properly. it is not used in the air force. This Obstacle can create a problem in the rainy season because it becomes slippery, so prefer doing it as the last obstacle in the rainy season.

DeleteWhat is the best way to do jump through tyre feet first or head first...?
ReplyDeleteFeet first bruh
DeleteHow can you do feet first. I thought you have to jump through the tyre so feet first is a bit weird for my imagination I guess. Cause if I imagine jumping through a tyre it would be easier to ho head first like hands above head. But you would need some practice for it to land properly or you can injure yourself very easily
