What to Do If You Don’t Know the Answer in SSB Conference
During the SSB Conference, candidates are often asked challenging questions. It is normal if you don’t know the answer. Officers are more interested in how you handle uncertainty, stay composed, and think logically than the actual answer.
1. Stay Calm and Confident
Avoid panicking or showing nervousness. Maintaining composure shows maturity and confidence under pressure.
2. Think Aloud
If you are unsure of the exact answer, try to reason through the problem out loud. Officers appreciate your analytical thinking and logical approach.
3. Admit Honestly if You Don’t Know
It is better to admit you don’t know rather than guessing blindly. Say something like, “I am not sure about the exact answer, but here is how I would approach it…”
4. Sample Answer
“I am not entirely sure about the exact answer, but I would approach the problem by analyzing the key factors and applying logical reasoning. Based on my understanding, this would be my method.”
5. Key Do’s and Don’ts
Do’s Don’ts
Stay calm and composed Panic or fidget nervously
Think logically and reason aloud Guess randomly without reasoning
Admit honestly if unsure Pretend to know or make up false information
Focus on problem-solving approach Ignore the process and only focus on the answer
Pro Tip: Officers value your thought process and attitude more than the correct answer. Handling unknown questions gracefully demonstrates confidence, maturity, and analytical skills.
